Griswold Man Killed After SUV Crosses Centerline on Rte 201 in Griswold, CT

Griswold, CT (June 10, 2026) – A man was killed in Griswold on Tuesday afternoon, June 9, when an SUV crossed the centerline and struck his motorcycle on Route 201. Connecticut State Police stated that the crash happened around 4:14 p.m., approximately one-tenth of a mile north of Sunset View.

The man was riding a 2026 Indian Scout Bobber south on Route 201 when a 2025 Honda CR-V, driven by a 66-year-old Griswold woman, crossed into his lane and hit him head-on. The 70-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the CR-V was hurt in the collision and taken to William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich with what are believed to be minor injuries.

The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is assisting with the investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the man’s family and all who knew him.

What Rights Do Families Have After a Fatal Accident in Griswold, CT

A head-on collision caused by a vehicle entering the opposing lane typically points to driver negligence. In Connecticut, families may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver and seek compensation for their pain and suffering, lost future income, and funeral expenses, among other damages.

Route 201 is a two-lane rural road that runs through Griswold and the surrounding communities of New London County. Roads like this carry consistent local traffic with no physical barrier separating opposing lanes. These conditions can make a momentary loss of control or lapse in attention a very serious crash. Motorcyclists on these roads have practically no protection when a vehicle enters their path.

Connecticut’s wrongful death statute requires claims to be filed within two years of the date of death. Acting within that window, and ideally well before it closes, allows a Connecticut wrongful death attorney to preserve evidence from the crash reconstruction, obtain witness statements, and build the strongest possible case on the family’s behalf.

If the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is involved, it means detailed investigative findings will exist, and having legal representation helps ensure the family has access to that information.
