How is Fault Determined After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Connecticut?
After a multi-vehicle crash, fault is determined by evaluating each driver’s actions and how they contributed to the accident. Connecticut follows a modified comparative fault rule, which means more than one driver can share responsibility for a collision, and compensation may be adjusted based on each person’s degree of fault.
In crashes involving multiple vehicles, establishing fault can be more complex than in a standard two-car accident. Investigators typically review police reports, witness statements, traffic camera footage, and physical evidence from the scene. Each of these elements helps build a clearer picture of how the crash unfolded and who may bear responsibility.
Insurance companies conduct their own investigations after multi-car collisions. They assess the evidence and assign percentages of fault to the drivers involved. Under Connecticut’s comparative fault rule, an injured person can still seek compensation as long as they are not found more than 50 percent responsible for the crash. However, any compensation awarded may be reduced by their assigned percentage of fault.
A abogado de accidentes automovilísticos can review the evidence, communicate with insurance adjusters, and help clarify how fault determinations may affect a claim. Legal guidance can make a meaningful difference in how a case is documented and presented, particularly when multiple parties are involved.
