Hartford, CT (May 15, 2026) – A laundry room fire at a multifamily home on the 400 block of Franklin Avenue in Hartford sent one person to the hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning, March 14. Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office and emergency units responded to the scene at approximately 12:34 a.m.
Crews arrived to find a working fire in the laundry room of a 2.5-story multifamily home and quickly put out a dryer fire. The fire stayed contained to the laundry room and did not spread to other areas of the building. No firefighters were hurt during the response.
One person at the scene was evaluated for smoke inhalation and taken to an area hospital for further treatment. Six residents were displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross is working with officials to assist the displaced residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Our thoughts go out to those affected, especially the families displaced from their homes on Franklin Avenue.
How Long Do I Have to File a Fire Injury Lawsuit in Connecticut?
In Connecticut, injury victims generally have two years from the date of the fire to file a personal injury lawsuit. The clock begins running the day of the accident. Missing this deadline typically means losing the right to pursue compensation through the courts entirely, regardless of the strength of the case.
The two-year window applies to personal injury claims, including those involving smoke inhalation, burns, and other fire-related injuries. Acting well before the deadline gives a abogado de lesiones personales the time needed to investigate the cause of the fire, gather evidence, and identify all potentially responsible parties.
Identifying liability in a fire injury case takes careful investigation. When a dryer fire causes injuries and displacement, responsibility may fall on multiple parties. The appliance manufacturer may bear liability if a defect caused the dryer to ignite. A landlord may be responsible if they failed to maintain the appliance or the laundry room in a safe condition.
In multifamily homes along busy residential corridors, landlord maintenance obligations are especially important. Connecticut law requires landlords to keep rental properties in a fit and habitable condition, and failures to do so can support a negligence claim.
Smoke inhalation injuries are not always immediately obvious. Symptoms can develop or worsen over hours and days following exposure. Seeking prompt medical treatment not only protects your health but also creates medical records that directly link your injuries to the fire. Those records become critical evidence if you later pursue a legal claim.
